A stunning performance by the South Korean team brought three Taegukgi flag on the 25m Pistol Women podium, where Koh Eun collected both the Gold medal and the Olympic quota place for Rio 2016.
In the Gold medal match, after losing the first series to her teammate Kim Minjung, Koh won the next four ones, gaining eight consecutive points and claiming the 1st place with a final score of 8 points to 2.
In the previous final for the 3rd place another South Korean shooter, Kim Ji Hye, bested Japan’s Akiko Sato wit the final score of 8 points to 4. However, despite finishing just outside of the medal positions, Sato received the second Olympic slot available in this event, as the Republic of Korea already collected one at the 2014 ISSF World Championship and was eligible for just one quota during this match.
Outside of the medal matches, Wu Chia Ying of Chinese Taipei, also not eligible for a quota place, finished in 5th place with 12 points, followed by Shun Xie Teo of Singapore, 6th also with 12 points and awarded with the third and last Olympic slot.
Two Thai shooters concluded in the bottom two positions: Naphaswan Yangpaiboon, 7th with 12 points, and Kanyakorn Hirunphoem, 8th with 11.
The competition will continue tomorrow with the 10m Air Pistol Men final scheduled at 1:30 PM (UTC+5:30), followed by the Skeet Women final at 3:30 PM.
