There’s another Spanish shooter who owns a world record in the men’s Trap events: after the senior record set by Antonio Bailon at this year’s World Cup stage in Larnaka (CYP), 18-year-old Adria Martinez Torres set a new Junior World Record in Porpetto.
At the ISSF Junior World Cup Shotgun, Martinez Torres qualified for the men’s Trap Junior final for the first time in his young career, then pocketing the Gold medal with the impressive score of 46 target hits.
“I’m extremely happy!” said the Spaniard. “My main goal was to enter the final, so to win this Gold medal feels fantastic!”
Martinez Torres hit all of his last 14 clays, and 24 of his last 25, overtaking Marongiu in the second part of the match. The Italian, Bronze medalist at the Junior World Cup in Gabala (AZE) in 2016, was tied with his Spanish rival with 10 targets left, when he missed three costly clays and finished with the Silver medal around his neck and 43 hits on the scoreboard.
Murat Ilbilgi (18) of Turkey completed the podium in 3rd place, besting the 22nd position he nailed twice at last year’s Junior World Cups in Suhl (GER) and Gabala. Ilbilgi took Bronze with 36 hits, after scoring 113+0 in Qualification and entering the final match with bib number six.
Italy’s second final participant, Alberto Belluzzo (20), placed just outside of the medal positions. Competing on the range where he trains everyday, Belluzzo hit his first 14 targets, then slipping down in the table and concluding in 4th place with 28 hits. He was followed by Croatia’s 18-year-old Ivan Karabalic, appearing in his first international competition ever, who finished in 5th position with 24 target hits.
After qualifying with the second highest qualification score, India’s 19-year-old Akash Saharan left the match after 25 targets, placing 6th with 17 hits.
Live results of the competitions, news and updates will be available on www.issf-sports.org and on all ISSF social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Weibo and Youku.
