ISSF and CISM agree Convention of Collaboration to align the development of sport shooting across military and civilian sectors

Following negotiations led by President Luciano Rossi and Walter Borghino, ISSF is delighted to announce the conclusion of a convention of collaboration between ISSF and the International military multi-sport organisation CISM (International Military Sport Council), which has its headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. The main goal of the convention is to encourage training and competition shooting for all military athletes based on the following activities:

 

  • Developing true synergies in sport affairs or matters between both institutions.
  • Identifying shared goals and objectives between CISM and ISSF.
  • Setting up joint educational initiatives to protect shooting against the dangers of doping.
  • Establishing collaboration in the training and management of International Technical Officials/Delegates.
  • Promoting the values of sports in general and shooting sports specifically.
  • Providing a clean environment for the practice of sports.
  • Organising joint educational courses for referees and juries, as well as coaching courses in shooting.
  • Enhancing the development of parasport shooting and women’s military sport;

 

As part of the convention, ISSF appointed Col. Walter Borghino, ISSF Ambassador, due to his wide knowledge of the military sport environment and experience in the operational aspects of shooting competitions, as ISSF representative, to explore and develop all possible fields of collaboration between CISM and ISSF.

 

Walter Borghino, ISSF ambassador for military sport said: “It has been one of ISSF’s strategic goals to help develop shooting sports by working closely with stakeholders all over the world. Thanks to this new agreement with CISM, we will formalise our relationship with military athletes all over the world and provide support where it is most needed.”

Colonel Nilton Rolim, CISM President, stated: "This agreement marks an important step in strengthening the collaboration between CISM and ISSF, two organizations that share the same values of fair play, excellence, and development through sport. We are enthusiastic about the opportunities this partnership will bring, not only to enhance training and competition for military athletes but also to contribute to the overall growth of shooting sports worldwide. At CISM, we firmly believe in the power of sport to unite, and we look forward to developing new projects and initiatives together with ISSF in the years to come."

 

ISSF and CISM are committed to implementing the principles of the present Convention

with all their national member federations and member nations. The present Convention shall take effect for a period of four years and will be automatically renewed unless otherwise decided by one or both parties.

The two organisations will promote their collaboration through existing and future communication means, including the establishment of a link between their respective websites and mutually publishing calendars and results of their competitions and to participate in communication projects to promote the image of shooting within both ISSF and CISM.
